TB Alert

Lesley Hynes joined TB Alert's board in January 2011.  Her paternal grandfather died of TB complications and when approached, she wanted to support the charity.  Lesley is keen to drive forward fundraising at a strategic level, keep fundraising on the table at board meetings, and ensure the charity knows what actions it needs to take and over what timeframe to shift its reliance on statutory income.

From Mike Mandelbaum, Chief Executive:

TB Alert is the UK’s leading tuberculosis charity, working to fight TB in the UK and abroad. After several years of rapid growth, the charity is entering a period when statutory funding cuts are going to significantly affect grant income and, potentially, the work programme.  As a result the charity urgently needed to reassess its programmatic and funding strategies.

During late 2010 Lesley worked for TB Alert as a consultant while the charity was recruiting a new head of fundraising, and identified many sources of increased funding among our own list of contacts and donors as well as from her own sources. Lesley’s deep knowledge of fundraising, combined with her quick grasp of our specific situation, led to us asking her to join the Board of Trustees to support our transition from a primarily grant-funded charity into one that needs to raise significant funds from voluntary income.

We are confident she will bring to her role as a Trustee the same attributes she brought to her consultancy: a fast and efficient working style, an ability to identify the right funder for the right project, and a highly collaborative working style.

Lesley retired as a trustee of TB Alert in September 2013.
